In this business I have been brought to some very uneasy neighborhoods to find some of the rarest gems. It is rare however that I find a cheap and tasty place located inside one of the nicest loft complex’s in town. Electric Hero is inside the Baker Lofts and they mean business.
For as long as I can remember Holland has had an abandoned Baker Furniture building. What used to be a large furniture company is now home to some very upscale lofts and a few shops. One of these is a sandwich place that is killing it on their panini-style sandwiches and wraps.
I looked over their menu and decided to go with The Tesla. This is a ham, gouda and tomato sandwich on grilled sourdough with an herb olive oil spread. I also added lettuce to this sandy. One of the fun parts about this place is the wrap for the sandwiches unfolds to be your place mat to eat. No plates needed and very little clean up.
The gouda and ham were super packed and with the herb olive oil and toasted sourdough this sandwich finished with memories of sitting in a park dipping hunks of bread in olive oil and relaxing in the sun.
If the upscale Holland location scares you Electric Hero also offers locations in Grand Rapids, Rockford and Grand Haven. Next time I go in I plan on snagging their version of a Cubano or a grilled cheese and soup.
